Why I'm Opening a Bookstore
I'm Sick of Shallow Career Advice and Work-Life Balance Quips
How many times have you heard something like:
- Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life.
- You can't go into that field with your degree. You should go back to school.
- Why are you wasting time on that when you could be productive?
- Be the first to arrive at the office and the last to leave if you want to climb the ladder.
If you're like me, you've probably heard these a lot, either implicitly or explicitly. And, if you're like me, you probably know they're all garbage.
Howdy, I'm Blake, the owner of Howdy Curiosity, and over the course of my career– from broke AF freelancer to six-figure-earning product leader– I've found that the key to building the kind of life you want to have is to be curious.
The more time you spend exploring ideas, adventuring into new fields, acquiring new skills, tinkering with concepts, and having fun with learning in a way that school never allowed us, the better equipped you are to actively shape your life into something you enjoy.
There are no magic bullets, no quick fixes, no get-rich-quick schemes that pay off in the long run. But when you're curious about the world around you and give yourself permission to try things out, fail, succeed, and try some more, the world gets a little more interesting.
One of the ways I've had the most success dipping my toes into new ways of looking at the world: reading.
I'm a bookworm. A proud word-nerd. And I want to share the books I love with the world and hopefully help guide a few of you along the path of living a curious life.
